I hope this message finds everyone well and staying warm as we kick off the new year.
The 2025 General Assembly convened on Monday, January 13, in Des Moines marking the start of another legislative session with opportunities to advocate for nursing and healthcare in Iowa. I would like to take a moment to highlight an important event: Legislative Day on Wednesday, March 5, in Des Moines. If you have not registered yet, please make it a priority to do so! Legislative Day is a fantastic opportunity to come together, connect with legislators, and make our collective voices heard.
As we move into 2025, let’s build on the momentum we achieved in 2024. I encourage each of you to stay engaged and in tune with what’s happening on Capitol Hill. Understanding which pieces of legislation are gaining traction is vital to our advocacy efforts.
Please remember that our lobbyist provides a comprehensive bill tracker, which can be accessed via a link on the INA website. This tool is invaluable for staying informed and prepared to act. Additionally, be sure to review our 2025 legislative priorities as outlined by the Public Policy Committee. These priorities serve as our roadmap for driving change and supporting the profession.
I look forward to seeing many of you in Des Moines on March 5. Together, we can make a powerful impact and ensure the voice of nursing continues to shape healthcare in Iowa.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our profession and association. Stay warm, stay engaged, and let’s make 2025 a year of meaningful progress!
With warm regards,
Greg Opseth, MHA, BSN, RN
