GREETINGS TO ALL NEBRASKA NURSES!

Linda Hardy, PhD, RN, CNE, CTNA
BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP.

As I worked on a presentation that I will be giving during Nurses Week, I was once again amazed at all of the resources that membership in ANA and NNA provides. According to Cline et al. and Kao (2019; 2022), the following are excellent reasons to belong to a professional organization:

  • Member discounts
  • Connections/networking with other professionals
  • Keep up to date on research & EBP changes
  • Education & training opportunities
  • Find a mentor
  • Influence healthcare policy
  • Collaboration with other professional organizations

Member discounts within ANA and NNA include free or reduced cost continuing education, access to reduced rates for various insurance policies, and participation in such offerings as Healthy Nurse-Healthy Nation™ and Craftsy™. This graphic shows some of these benefits https://www.nursingworld.org/membership/member-benefits/personal-benefits/. Another benefit of membership is hard copies of American Nurse published by ANA and this journal Nebraska Nurse which is published 4 times per year. While I wholeheartedly embrace all that electronic media provides, it is nice to hold a journal in my hands every so often.

Click on this link to view over 130 offerings—free or at a reduced price for members. https://www.nursingworld.org/continuing-education/ These are just a few of the benefits of belonging. Cost is only $15 per month. Non-member nurses receive an email copy of this publication. I encourage you to click this link and join us as members of NNA and ANA! https://nebraskanurses.org/membership/

NNA AROUND THE STATE

By the time you are reading this publication, I will have had the pleasure of attending celebrations for nurses receiving Positive Image of Nursing awards in North Platte, Lincoln, and Omaha. On May 1st, Governor Pillen will present NNA with a Nurses Week Proclamation (May 6-12) at the Capital in Lincoln. On May 7th, I will give a presentation at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk and on May 14th at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. There, the presentation will be at 0630 and 1830 to be able to see nurses from both shifts. Great Plains Health in North Platte may be included as well—arrangements in process. My topic is Empowering Nurses: The Impact of a Professional Nursing Organization on Wellbeing and Career Development.

Thank you, Nebraska Nurses, for all that you do for your patients, their families, our communities, and our nursing profession!
