As part of Professional Development Week, the National Nurses Month toolkit suggests registering for a National Provider Identifier (NPI), a unique number used to identify individual providers and associate them with the care they deliver (nursingworld.org/ana-enterprise/nurses-month). NPIs provide a means for advanced practice RNs to bill most insurance providers, including Medicare and Medicaid.
