Study: Flu vaccine prevented millions of illnesses in past 6 years

According to “Influenza Illness and Hospitalizations Averted by Influenza Vaccination in the United States, 2005–2011,” published in PLOSOne, vaccination prevented a minimum of 1.1 million influenza illnesses in the 2006 to 2007 season and a high of 5 million illnesses in the 2010 to 2011. Vaccination also prevented 40,400 hospitalizations in the 2010-2011 season.
