Dear Nurse Colleagues,

As I prepare to step down from my role as president of the South Carolina Nurses Association (SCNA), I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve shared over the past few years. It has been an honor and privilege to serve the dedicated and passionate nurses who make up this remarkable organization. Together, we have faced challenges, celebrated victories, and most importantly, continued to elevate the nursing profession throughout South Carolina.

The past few years have brought both unprecedented challenges and opportunities. We hired T.K. Curtis-Pugh as our Executive Director following the 35-year leadership of Judith C. Thompson. We hosted our first in person conference in Spartanburg last October which, as we heard from those who attended, was successful. At this conference we gave the first ever Judith C. Thompson award to honor Judy and her years of service. In April we hosted our inaugural nurse 5k to raise money for nursing scholarships. I am especially proud of our presence throughout the state, hosting educational offerings, supporting other nursing organizations throughout as well as increased visibility at the state capitol ensuring that the voice of nursing is represented. We have continued to experience increased membership and the development of our Acute Care Nursing Chapter. Finally, we have initiated the work on our racial reckoning journey to develop our racial reckoning statement for the association. Your strength, compassion, and professionalism have been nothing short of inspiring as we have forged forward for all nurses of South Carolina.

I am incredibly proud of the initiatives we’ve championed and supported during my tenure. From expanding access to professional development opportunities, to advocating for policies that ensure safe working environments, we have made significant strides in advancing the interests of nurses and the patients we serve.

A Future Full of Promise

As I step aside, I am filled with optimism for the future of SCNA. This association is stronger than ever, and I have no doubt that it will continue to grow and evolve to meet the needs of the nursing community. Dr. Jada Quin is dedicated, innovative, and deeply committed to advancing our mission.

To my fellow board members, thank you for your unwavering support, your counsel, and your shared commitment to excellence. To the members of SCNA, thank you for trusting me to represent you and for your tireless dedication to the nursing profession. It is your daily commitment to caring for others that fuels the progress we have made as an organization.

A Personal Note of Gratitude

On a personal note, I would like to express my deep gratitude to each of you for making this journey so meaningful. Serving as your president has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. I have learned so much from each of you—about leadership, compassion, and the enduring spirit of nursing.

As immediate Past President, I will remain an active and passionate member of SCNA. Our work is never truly done, and I look forward to continuing to advocate for the profession I love in new ways.

Moving Forward

As nurses, we are the backbone of the healthcare system, and together, we have the power to continue transforming patient care, policy, and our profession for the better. I encourage all of you to stay engaged, stay passionate, and never lose sight of the incredible impact you have on the lives of those you serve.

Thank you for this unforgettable experience. It has been an honor to lead, and I am excited to watch SCNA flourish in the years to come.
